The Legend of Godsbane
The Might of the Thrym is ever growing….
500 years ago: From the frozen far north, beyond the civilized lands with their rolling hills and forests, arose a mighty army of frost giants, ice devils, Hellfrost dragons, and fearsome orcs, servants all of the ice god Thrym. So began the terrible Blizzard War and the downfall of the mighty empires of man
Today: The races of the southern lands may have won the war, but they suffer its legacy still. For five centuries the winters have grown steadily longer and colder. Huge swathes of the land of Rassilon are permanently covered in ice and snow, and even the temperate lands are not spared the misery of failed harvests, deadly winters, and the dreaded Hellfrost wind.
But winter is not the only danger. A mere 30 years ago, magic, once the civilized races’ most potent weapon, suddenly began to fail. The Siphoning, an effect of unknown origin, has made magic an unpredictable ally.
Myth and Legend:
In a land where the cold is ever encroaching and the lands history is only recorded by a select few, legends and myths rise from the old wives tales, war stories and children’s tales passed down from generation to generation.
And there is one such tale out there about an ancient weapon able to topple even the gods themselves, hidden away forgotten by the passing ages ever waiting for the right person to come by and find it.
Many a man and woman have searched for it only to find their own folly and doom.
The Tale Of Godsbane:
Before time was set and the world was breathing there was a war for control a god war that shook the very fabric of the universe, the gods were fighting each other for control in a titanic struggle that eventually engulfed many lives of the gods.
The struggle for survival became too much for the gods on their own so the gods who shared aspects bonded together to become one entity, with the gods now fewer in numbers they formed a truce so that no conflict like this could ever happen again.
However the gods saw fit to create a weapon so powerful it could kill a god should the need arise if the truce was ever broken, each of their essence itself was bonded to it making it able to strike down any of the gods. The weapon was cast into the world buried deep in the earth to never be used or found and is ever waiting until the day of its calling.
Fear the bane of gods you must for it is a cautionary tale of a folly even the gods were capable.
